PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Soldier surprises are stories we all love, but one happened today right here in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Sergeant First Class Donnie Hendrix came home early from South Korea today, April 9, surprising his two daughters.

The youngest daughter goes to Lakewood Primary School and the oldest daughter goes to Lakewood Elementary, both in Phenix City.

The girls had no idea their dad was coming home today.

"It was one year in Korea, one year hardship tour, and now I'm back and I'll be re-stationed at Ft. Stewart," said Sgt. 1st Class Hendrix. "We're very excited I haven't seen them in quite some time. I'm glad to be home... glad to be home long time."

Sgt. 1st Class Hendrix has served this country for 17 years and has done many things in the military including being a sniper, an Army marksman, a drill sergeant and a platoon sergeant in Korea, just to name a few.
