Lanett man dies, police issue murder warrant

LANETT, AL (WTVM) -

Police have issued a warrant for murder after a Lanett man died of an apparent gunshot wound on April 9.

The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. on the 3200 block of 44th Ave. SW in Lanett, Ala. Police responded to reports of a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, they found Christopher Michael Griggs, 27, suffering from apparent gunshot wound.

Griggs was transported to Lanier Memorial where he was later pronounced dead. His body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Montgomery for autopsy.

A murder warrant has been issued for 23-year-old Thomas Brent Starkey of Valley, Ala.

Starkey is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a White male, 5'10" tall, 173 lbs., with brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen in a tan 2002 Mercury Sable with Alabama license plate number 12AC827.

Starkey was also arrested in Lee County, Ala. last week for an outstanding FTA Youthful Offender warrant.

Officers are also looking for two subjects wanted for questioning in the murder.

Paul Clayton Teague, 25, from Valley, Ala. owns the vehicle associated with Starkey. He is described as a white male, 5'7" tall, 155 lbs. with brown eyes and brown hair.

Jacob Shaddix, 18, from Valley, Ala. is also wanted for questioning. He is described as 5'7" tall, 200 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of these subjects to contact law enforcement. The Lanett Police Department can be reached at 334-576-0914.

This case is still under investigation.
