FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - The 31st annual Best Ranger Competition starts on Friday around 6:30 in the morning. A total of 100 rangers from all over the world came to Fort Benning to compete in the annual event.
Fifty teams of two soldiers will show off their skills to fight battles. The competition will last until Sunday evening and only two winners will take home the honors and awards.
The rangers will go through difficult tasks that are mentally, emotionally and physically challenging. They will do this with very little sleep and food.
"These guys are coming from all over the world to show their combat and fighting skills," Captain Sam Kies said. "These men will compete hard to prove themselves."
The competition is named after retired Lt. General David E. Grange who started this event 31 years ago.
"Lt. General Grange is a combat veteran of world War II, Korea and Vietnam wars," Captain Kies said. "He used to be the director of the Ranger Department as well. He wanted this event to life the spirit of the rangers and to uplift the army community. It has grown into a phenomenal event."
The competition will continue until Sunday evening. Two winners will be awarded Monday.
