Troy wins two out of three to take series from Western Kentucky

TROY, AL (WSFA) -

After losing the first game, the Troy Trojan baseball team won the next two games to take the series win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

The Trojans dropped a close one to Western Kentucky on Friday by a score of 5-4. Troy had runners on second and third in the ninth inning, but was unable to tie the game. The Trojans stranded eleven runners throughout the game including a bases loaded situation in the fourth inning.

Trojan starter Tanner Hicks, who left the game in the fourth inning after being hit in his throwing arm by a line drive, received the loss dropping his record to 2-6.

Ali Knowles led Troy's offense going 3-for-5 and scoring two runs. David Hall was the only other Trojans to finish with two or more hits.

On Saturday, David Hall was the hero for the Trojans going 4-for5 with five RBI including a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie. The Trojans would go on to win the game by a score of 11-6. Clay Holcomb went 3-for4 with three runs scored, and Garrett Pitts and Nick Masonia finished with two hits each.

Shane McCain got the start for the Trojans and pitched for seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits in the no-decision.

The Trojans would take the series from Western Kentucky on Sunday winning 10-5 after a six-run fourth inning. The six-run fourth inning came after three Trojan batters were hit by a pitch and two more were walked.

Ben Tidwell was awarded the victory going six-and-one-third innings after William Shell was pulled after one inning. Tidwell gave up one run on eight hits while striking out three batters.
