(Toledo News Now) -

A Lucas County grand jury has found a former liquor store clerk guilty of selling alcohol to minors.

Nicholas Thompson made the sale to a group of teens, including Brian Hoeflinger, who later died in an accident while driving drunk in February 2013.

Thompson only faced misdemeanor charges.

Judge James Bates sentenced Thompson to six months at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. He will also pay a fine as part of his sentence.

Hoeflinger was an 18-year-old senior at Ottawa Hills High School. He was a golfer and honors student who was accepted to the University of North Carolina. His parents, Cindy and Brian, have made speeches since his death to raise awareness about the dangers of underage drinking.
