ADOT warns of weekend freeway closures in Valley

If you're planning to travel in the Valley this weekend, here are some areas to avoid, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

  • Northbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) is closed between Northern and Olive avenues in Peoria from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday, April 19 for a traffic technology project. DETOUR: Northbound freeway traffic can detour along 91st and 99th avenues.
  • Northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Olive and Grand/91st avenues are closed overnight from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, April 20 for a traffic technology project. DETOUR: Consider using northbound on-ramps at Peoria Avenue or Thunderbird Road. Consider using southbound on-ramps at Grand or Peoria avenues.
  •  Northbound Loop 303 is closed between McDowell and Indian School roads in Goodyear from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Sunday, April 20 for rubberized-asphalt paving. DETOUR: Please use alternate routes, including northbound Citrus Road.
  •  Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) is closed between Hawes and Power roads in Mesa from 11 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 19 for work on future State Route 24 interchange. DETOUR: Westbound freeway traffic will detour along westbound Ray Road and reconnect with Loop 202 at Power Road. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport traffic will be directed to Loop 202 WB via Power Road.

ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements as part of the 20-year Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region. The primary funding source for regional freeway improvements is a half-cent sales tax approved by county voters in 2004.
