BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -

Valley law enforcement officers pulled an improvised explosive device out of a home in rural Buckeye on Thursday afternoon.

Buckeye Police found it while serving a search warrant at a house near West Yuma Road and Jackrabbit Trail.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad was called in and they safely dismantled it.

Buckeye Police ended up arresting 25-year-old Manuel Castillo, who lived at the home.

They said he's connected to several burglaries, involving copper wire and other scrap metals, in the Verrado and Sundance neighborhoods during the past few months.

Investigators said they found Castillo taking apart a stolen trailer out of Peoria, worth about $12,000, presumably to sell as scrap metal.

They also found several other stolen vehicles, along with a large amount of metal and evidence tied to a burglary at a construction site near Verrado and McDowell roads.

"We had a commercial burglary out there which had about $50,000 worth of merchandise stolen, building materials and all that," said Sgt. Jason Weeks. "They found evidence that this individual, the one we were looking for, and Castillo are part of this."

Castillo is being booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of possession of stolen property, weapons offenses and endangerment.

Police are still looking for that one other suspect, who they're not naming at this time.

If you have any information regarding recent copper and metal thefts in the Verrado and Sundance neighborhoods, call the Buckeye Police Department at 623-349-6400.
