COVINGTON CO., AL (WSFA) -

The Covington County sheriff's deputy killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning was laid to rest Tuesday.

Family, friends and members of law enforcement said emotional goodbyes to Deputy Heath Kelley at the funeral services at First Baptist Church Andalusia.

Kelley, 46, was buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Red Level.

Troopers say Deputy Kelley was killed while on duty when his patrol car and another vehicle crashed around 7:40 a.m. on Alabama Highway 55 near South Bypass. Kelley was en route to a report of another crash when he lost control and crashed his unit.

Troopers say Kelley was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital where medical officials pronounced him dead. The driver of the second vehicle, a white SUV, was also transported to an area hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Kelley joined the sheriff's office in 2008 as a corrections officer in the county jail. He became a deputy and was transferred to the traffic division in 2010.
