Dolly Sanchez Easter Egg Hunt

This year's egg hunt will take place on Saturday, April 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Peoria Sports Complex, located at 16101 N. 83rd Ave. just south of Bell Road. New this year is a dedicated hunt time geared for children who have disabilities. This year's activities for families include "Cottontail Lane," which will feature carnival games and fun arts and crafts. Children can also visit animals at the petting zoo, take a train ride and jump on the inflatables. "Mr. and Mrs. Bunny" will be starting the candy hunts with the 1-year-olds at 8:20 a.m. Dolly Sanchez wanted a fun event to allow all children in Peoria the opportunity to enjoy an Easter egg hunt. That was in 1976. Today, thanks to Sanchez's vision, and a lot of time and energy from the Sanchez family and the city, the Dolly Sanchez Memorial Easter Egg Hunt is one of the largest events of its kind in Arizona.

Governor's Egg Roll

The Wigwam's Fourth Annual Easter Festival is Saturday, April 19. At 8:30 a.m., the Easter bunny will arrive via helicopter. At 9 a.m., Gov. Jan Brewer will kick off the Easter Egg Roll. At 9:30 a.m., there will be an Easter Outfit Competition, where guests can enter to win VIP access to the egg hunt as well as "golden egg" prizes. At 10 a.m. the Easter Egg Hunt will begin, with children divided into two groups: ages 1 to 4 and ages 5 to 8.

The morning's festivities will include Easter egg decorating and crafts; a reading corner with Reach Out and Read; face painters; balloon artists; a "Kids Fun Zone" provided by Hilgers Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry; a "Healthy Kids Get Up and Go Zone" with yoga, zumba, bunny hop races and miniature golf; animal encounters with Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium; as well as live entertainment. Be sure to ride the Eggs-press train around the property. The family-friendly festivities will wrap up at noon.

El Mirage Easter Eggstravaganza

Activities include pictures with Hoppy the Easter Bunny, egg coloring, bounce houses, and a petting zoo. Food vendors and other concessioners will also be on hand. Highlighting the event are the Easter egg hunts beginning at 9 a.m. for kids 2 years old and younger, and scheduled every half-hour by age group up to 11 years of age. Special prizes will be awarded to children in all age groups who find eggs with golden tickets inside.

Fan Fest Food Drive

St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance is critically low on canned food items heading into the hot summer months, and Arizona State University is asking Sun Devil football fans to help restock the shelves of the "World's First Food Bank" by bringing three canned food items to this year's Sun Devil Football Fan Fest on Saturday, April 19.

St. Mary's Food Bank volunteers will be stationed outside the south entrance of Sun Devil Stadium on April 19 prior to and through the first 30 minutes of the annual Sun Devil Football Fan Fest and Spring Football Game, which begins at 9 a.m. Admission is free to the event, but fans are asked to please bring three canned food items (per person) to help ASU reach its goal of donating 5,000 pounds of desperately needed food to aid the hungry of Arizona.

St. Mary's reports the needed non-perishable items include peanut butter, tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, soups and stews as well as packaged rice and beans. No glass bottles, please.
