Bo Jackson hosts annual Bo Bikes Bama charity bicycle ride in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WXTX) -

Major League Baseball and NFL player Bo Jackson led the way for an over 60 mile bike ride around East Alabama Saturday, April 19.

The Heisman Trophy winner returned to Auburn, Ala. to hold his third annual Bo Bikes Bama charity bicycle ride.

The event began in the morning with riders participating in either a 22 or 62 mile ride. Both routes zipped through the Auburn University campus. Jackson says he was more than happy to return home for this great event.

"First and foremost, we raise a lot of money for a needy cause," Jackson says. "Second of all, I got to see a lot of my old teammates, and friends that I only get to see once every year at my ride, and to have it back here in Auburn, that's icing on the cake."

The Bo Bikes Bama charity ride raises money for the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund in Alabama, which was established after the deadly tornado outbreak of 2011.

Promoters say the rides have raised more than $700,000 for storm relief in the state.
