LOUISVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

An Evansville couple travels to Louisville to run in the Derby Festival mini-marathon and it turns into a day they will never forget.

Ben Griggs and Aly Ulrich had been training for months to compete in the race together.

Griggs ran the race more than an hour faster than Ulrich so he could greet her at the finish line.

Griggs got down on one knee to propose and she said 'Yes!'.

While Ulrich is definitely excited, she says she wasn't planning on having this memory right after one of the hardest workouts of her life.

"I'm not very happy that I'm on TV with no makeup on, all sweaty and salty.  But, whatever, I don't care.  I'm happy at the end of the day.  I was like, 'Oh gosh, here come the tears,'" said Ulrich.

Griggs finished the marathon in just under two hours.

Ulrich's time was just under three.
