COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The always popular "Margaret Carney Tea & Music Series" will be returning for its eighth season to the Columbus Public Library on Friday afternoons this May.

This year's theme will be "A Musical Potpourri & Tea" and will feature music from a wide variety of composers and styles.

These free programs, sponsored by the Muscogee County Friends of Libraries, will be held on Friday May 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 3 p.m. All performances will take place in the Auditorium of the Columbus Public Library, 3000 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their favorite teacup. This year's teas will feature several choices from Harney & Sons of New York.

The musical series, coordinated by Dr. Kristen Hansen, Associate Professor in the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, utilizes a lively combination of lecture and performance that has entertained Columbus audiences for years. Joining Dr. Hansen on stage is a group of distinguished musical performance faculty and staff from the Schwob School of Music.

The performances are scheduled to include:

May 2: The Columbus State University Baroque Ensemble featuring music of Vivaldi, Tartini, and Bach.

May 9: Kristen Hansen, horn, and Alina Sarkisyan, piano performing Lars Erik Larsson's "Concertino".

May 16: Susan Tomkiewicz, oboe; Conner Ray, clarinet; Kristen Hansen, horn; Ronald Wirt, bassoon; Susan Hoskins, piano performing Mozart's "Sinfonie Concertante in E-flat."

May 23: "Horn Music Amongst Friends": Kristen Hansen, horn and Susan Hoskins, piano will join with their friends to present horn music from different eras.

The concert series is named to honor the memory of longtime Library volunteer Margaret Carney. She was devoted to many library programs, including the Tea & Music series.
