RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A Russell County Deputy has been arrested for his involvement in a drug trafficking operation.

Brandon Williams, 24, was arrested in Lee County for trafficking synthetic marijuana, also known as spice. Investigators found almost 1.5 pounds of spice found in Williams's home.

Williams worked in the traffic division. The case is still being investigated.

Sheriff Heath Taylor says Williams had been with the department as a uniformed deputy for about two months, and he previously worked in Phenix City as a police officer.

The department received a tip from an informant on the street. Sheriff Taylor believes Williams had been selling drugs for the entire time during his employment at the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

Spice is illegal in this state as a controlled substance act, according to Sheriff Taylor.

Williams is being questioned and interrogated by Russell County. He will be transported and booked in the Lee County jail when that process is completed.
