Police issue murder warrant for Adair Ave. shooting suspect

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Coroner Buddy Bryan tells us the man who was shot on Adair Avenue just off of Wynnton Road on April 24 has died.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Corey Owens was found inside a white SUV. He was apparently suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head. Owens was transported to the Midtown Medical Center and died at 12:55 p.m. on Friday.

His body will be sent to Atlanta for an autopsy.

Columbus Police have issued a murder warrant for the arrest of SaCorey McKelvey in relation to this shooting incident. McKelvey is a 22-year-old black male who stands at 5'8 and weighs about 200 pounds.

McKelvey is considered armed and dangerous.

Residents posting on the Northeast Columbus Neighborhood Watch page on Facebook alerted us to this incident when it occurred at about 2 p.m.

News Leader 9 was the first crew on the scene.

Neighbors told our Tyrone McCoy that they heard gunshots and went outside to investigate.

"I heard shots, five shots," said Cassandra Washington. "I saw a guy running down the sidewalk with dreads. I was on my back porch."

Investigators have not released much information about this incident.
