Fort Benning's commanding general, MG Herbert Raymond McMaster, has been named to the 2014 TIME 100 list.

In a tribute article entitled The architect of the future U.S. Army, TIME recognizes McMaster in their annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

"I watched senior Army generals argue over ways to end his career," writes retired LTG Dave Barno for TIME. "But he dodged those bullets and will soon take over command of the Army's ‘futures' center. After years as an outspoken critic, McMaster soon will be in the right place to help build the right Army for the nation."

The 2014 TIME 100 list also includes the likes of Pope Francis, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Malala Yousafzai and Edward Snowden.

As TIME has described the list in the past, "The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it's not a list of the smartest people in the world, it's a list of the most influential people in the world. They're scientists, they're thinkers, they're philosophers, they're leaders, they're icons, they're artists, they're visionaries. People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people."

The full list and related tributes appear in the May 5 issue of TIME, available on newsstands and tablets on Friday, April 25, and now at http://time.com/time100.
