CSU’s ROTC program honors cadet

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus State University's ROTC program held an award ceremony on Thursday April 24.

The presentation honored Staff Sergeant Ricky Leslie with the prestigious Raytheon Hughes Trophy.

He is this year's most outstanding commissioned graduate.

Staff Sgt. Leslie will graduate with his Master's in May commissioned as a second lieutenant assigned to work in the finance branch.

"A lot of young guys and ladies are getting influenced here in this public recognition shows they're doing something beyond themselves," said Staff Sgt. Leslie. "Cause the fact that the Army was around 14 June 1775, it's a year older than the United States itself and we protect the constitution and that's everything we stand for and they need to be recognized for what they're commuting their lives to."

CSU's ROTC program is ranked as one of the nation's best, producing more than 20 new second lieutenants a year.
