Glenwood, Lakeside advance, Lee-Scott forces a deciding game in AISA playoffs

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - The Glenwood Gators swept Bessemer Academy  in the AISA AAA state quarterfinals on Thursday evening to advance to the state final four. The Gators won the opener 10-0 in five innings, winning the nightcap 11-1.

Tanner Thomason threw a no-hitter in the opener, with a hit batsman in the second inning the only baserunner for Bessemer. He struck out five in his six innings of work.

The Gators will play either Macon-East or Monroe Academy in the semifinals beginning on Wednesday.

In other AISA play involving area teams, Lee-Scott and Tuscaloosa Academy split two games on Thursday night, Tuscaloosa winning the opener 12-3, and the Warriors winning the nightcap 13-5. The deciding game three is set for 1 pm CT Friday in Tuscaloosa.

In Class A, the Lakeside Chiefs swept Sparta Academy 12-2 in five innings, and 10-0 in six innings, to advance to the semifinals. They will face either Cornerstone or Marengo in the next round.
