SACVET hosts 7th annual Stand Down Event

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The South Atlantic Center for Veterans Education and Training (SACVET) held their 7th annual Stand Down Event Saturday, April 26.

More than 50 local agencies and resource stations gathered at Columbus Convention and Trade Center to help about 1,000 veterans.

Freddie Harrison, head organizer for SACVET, says homeless veterans are a problem that he wants to help fix in the Chattahoochee Valley.

"One time, these were the best fit, best trained soldiers in the world," says Harrison. "A lot of times things happen, and they find themselves in situations that they can't fix themselves. But if we don't, who? If not now, when?"

Harrison says the team works all year long to hold the veterans stand down event. SACVET also held their 3rd annual female stand down event to assist women with clothes, medical screening and sexual trauma they have gone through when they were actively serving.
