COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Lupus affects more people than AIDS, Cerebral Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Sickle-cell combined.
Aleshia Hunter is helping to organize a fundraiser to raise awareness about this illness. She joined the WTVM studios on April 28 to tell us more.
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory illness that causes the body's immune system to attack healthy tissues and organs. The disease is not genetic, but it can be hereditary. There is currently no cure for lupus.
On Saturday, May 3, the Lupus Live Charity Fundraiser event will raise money that will be used for lupus research. Local celebrity musicians, dancers, and poets will provide the entertainment.
WTVM, along with partners with DJ Divine and Foxie 105, is sponsoring the event.
The Lupus Live Charity Fundraiser will be hosted at the St. James AME Church banquet hall. The event will last from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
