COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson is one of many taking advantage of early voting.

Tomlinson voted on Monday, April 28 at the Citizen Services Center on Macon Road.

Colin Martin, formerly of the Greater Chamber of Commerce, is challenging Tomlinson in the Mayor's race.

News Leader 9 talked to the Mayor today about heading to the polls early.

"We've really tried to, as a community, offer a lot of options for people to get out there early and vote, so come on out so something doesn't come up at the last minute," Tomlinson said. "We want your vote to be ready and we want your voice to be heard.  This is really going to affect your everyday life because the local elections are the government that's closest to you. "

Voters in Columbus have just over three weeks to decide on who they will vote for.

Martin tells us that he plans to vote on Election Day, which is May 20, 2014.
