(WTVM) - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a new law on the books in honor of the sacrifice of our nation's soldiers.
Deal signed Senate Bill 276 into law Saturday, declaring August 7 as "Purple Heart Day" in Georgia.
The governor also recognized four Georgia soldiers at the ceremony in College Park.
Each received Purple Hearts for their service in Afghanistan.
"It's just good that we're being recognized because it gives us a chance to shout out the rest of our soldiers that didn't get wounded but still did just as much work as we did," said Jonathan Mathews.
Purple Heart Day will now be an annual celebration.
