TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A busy grocery store parking lot on a Saturday night is not where people are typically gunned down in front of multiple witnesses.

But that's what happened to 36-year-old Tomas Tovar just before 10 p.m. on April 26 at the Food City near Irvington and Campbell.

"That's what I heard," south side resident Eric Lopez said, pointing to a spot in front of the grocery store.  "I heard that he was walking from that area and that they were waiting for him and shot him and that he died right there."

Lopez wasn't there that night, but he knows people who were.

In fact he used to work at this Food City and has several friends who still do today.

He says none of them have heard anything specific about what happened, only that a car reportedly left the scene right after the shooting.

Tucson Police Sgt. Pete Dugan confirmed that very information.

"There were numerous people in the parking lot when the shooting took place," Dugan said. "They also learned there was a silver or gray Dodge Magnum station wagon vehicle. That vehicle was seen leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed after the shooting."

Police won't definitively say that's what the suspect or suspects were driving that night.

But they do believe whoever was in that car knows something about the shooting or at least something about the victim.

That's why they're turning to you for help.

If you have any information about what happened outside the Food City grocery store at 2000 East Irvington last Saturday, call 911 or 88-CRIME.

A reward up to $1,000 will go to the person whose tip leads to an arrest in this unsolved murder.
