Lupus Live charity fundraiser on May 3rd

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - The Lupus Live charity event is meant to raise awareness and research funding for lupus, an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks healthy tissues. An estimated 5 million people around the world have some form of lupus.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the St. James AME Church banquet hall (1002 6th Ave. downtown) in Columbus.

There will be a variety show featuring local celebrities and artistic talent performances. Complimentary food, prizes, and gifts will be available.

At the event, the Mayor's Office will proclaim May as Lupus Awareness Month in the Columbus-metro area!

Our sister station WTVM is sponsoring this event.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door. You can purchase tickets on and search for "Lupus Live", or visit WTVM studios (1909 Wynnton Road) to purchase in person.

Net proceeds will benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter.

You can also support this cause by attending or donating to the Columbus Georgia Walk. This event, which will also be held on May 3, is hosted by Detra Holloway. Holloway established the Diamond Butterflies Lupus Foundation to bring more events and lupus awareness to Columbus.

The funds raised will support the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter.
