(WTVM) -

People all over the country, and in the Chattahoochee Valley, participated in a special day of prayer on Thursday, May 1.

The congregation at Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City, Ala. held a service in honor of the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer.

Pastor Grant Parker says, "We ought to be praying without ceasing, constantly seeking the face of God. And it's a great opportunity for people to put aside cultural differences, color differences, class differences, and join together in what we do have in common. That is a great need for prayer, and the intervention in this nation by a high and holy God that can change circumstances and situations and even people."

Around 30 people showed up for the service at Epworth United.

At St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School in Columbus, Ga. over 600 students and faculty joined in the nationwide prayer movement with a service of their own.

The National Day of Prayer started in 1952, and is held the first Thursday of May each year. People of all faiths are asked to pray together for our country's leaders.
