"Cops on Top" event to raise money for Special Olympics

The Auburn Police Division will be camped out on the roof of Kroger on Dean Road this weekend for the annual "Cops On Top" event.

For 38 continuous hours, APD officers will be on top of the building to raise awareness and money for the Special Olympics.

The event will end Saturday at 10 p.m., until then officers will also be on the ground accepting donations from people and to sell 2014 law enforcement t-shirts.

The Auburn Police Division is one of many law enforcement agencies across Alabama that will be participating in Cops On Top.

"It's fun for us because we get to do something different," said Lt. Kenneth Frazier. "We get to interact with the public and its fun. Most of the time when we interact with the public something tragic has happened. So we get to see them in a different light and they get to see us in a different light."

Last year, law enforcement officers in the state raised more than $85,000 during this event.

Worldwide, more than 85,000 officers dedicate themselves to helping make Special Olympics a success.
