OVERTIME: Falcons baseball flies back and advances

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

On single elimination Saturday, the 14th seeded Catalina Foothills baseball team was simply not ready for their season to end.

The Falcons (21-6) rallied from an early five-run deficit scoring three in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth to rally for a 7-3 win over Cienega.

The Bobcats season ends at 17-11. Catalina Foothills advances to a Tuesday showdown in Prescott Valley against 3rd seed Bradshaw Mountain (19-7).

Tuesday's action begins the double-elimination phase of the state tournament.

Falcons ace Luis Gonzalez (5-2) gave up five runs in the 2nd but put up five zeros after that.

Junior Anthony DeNiro's two-out two-run single in the 6th off losing pitcher Andre Jackson (0-1) tied the game at five.

The Falcons took the lead in the 6th when Gabe Gerhauser's single was misplayed by Cienega centerfielder Francisco Dicochea. Gerhauser ended up a third on the two-base error and scored on a sac-fly by Dominic DeNiro.

The Bobcats committed five errors in the game.

Senior Austin Baldwin followed later with his 2nd home run of the season to provide some breathing room.
