Montgomery Co EMA unveils new severe weather alert system

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

EMA leaders announced a new way to alert residents of severe weather at Monday's Montgomery County Commission meeting.

Officials revealed the new tool that is referred to as "Alert Montgomery". It sends out a text message and e-mail to those who are registered when severe weather hits Montgomery.

The alert is set up to cover all of Montgomery County, which makes if perfect for those who live or work in the county.

"It's another tool," said Calvin Brown, Director of the Montgomery County EMA. "We're going to send the sirens off, but this is a personal tool. This is something alerts you at your bedside."
