JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County deputies are investigating a shooting that injured an off-duty Birmingham police officer.

Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards confirms that the victim is an officer. The Jefferson County Sheriff's office says the suspect, 33-year-old Andre Devon Morgan of Birmingham, has turned himself in to the Jefferson County Jail.

Deputies have issued an arrest warrant for Morgan on the charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and attempted murder.

The shooting happened in the 5000 block of Gold Leaf Lane in Pinson. Jefferson County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Randy Christian says it appears a female friend was at the victim's house when her husband, Morgan, arrived and knocked on the door.

The victim opened the door and that's when deputies believe Morgan fired three shots. The victim was hit in the hand, lower body and back. He was reportedly alert and speaking when he was transported to UAB Hospital. Christian says the victim's injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.

Morgan then fled the scene and is at large.
