A Paine College student who was shot Monday on campus is expected to make a full recovery, college officials said Tuesday.

JaJuan Awayness Baker, 21, was shot in the head around 1 p.m. on the third floor of Haygood-Holsey Hall, an administrative building.

The suspect in the shooting, 20-year-old Xavier Deanthony Cooper, is also a Paine College student, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Richmond County investigators believe Monday's shooting may be connected to another shooting that happened on campus Sunday and to a shooting on Laurel Street

Paine College officials would not comment on how the shooting started. The sheriff's office is investigating. A joint press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Commencement exercises at the college will continue as planned, college officials said. Students will be allowed to take final exams online if they choose.
