UNION SPRINGS, AL (WSFA) -

A former Montgomery police officer who was fired from the force is now being hired on with the Union Springs Police Department.

Several people complained about the hiring and WSFA 12 News spoke with Union Springs mayor Saint Thomas about the hire. He says he has no problems with the recent addition to his police force.

Chief Danny Jackson hired former Montgomery police homicide investigator Stanley Wilson who was charged with theft in 2013 after he allegedly took $20 from the personal effects of a person who committed suicide.

Court documents show that Wilson pleaded guilty but the charge was later dismissed after he completed 100 hours of community service and paid $400 in court costs.

He'd been with the Montgomery Police Department since 1987.

Wilson is now the chief investigator for the Union Springs Police Department where he earns $38,000 per year.
