CANTON, GA (CBS46) -

It's not often you find a 9-year-old who acts, and sounds like a grown up. But, Bradley Thomas is mature beyond his years.

Ever since the now 9-year-old was 6, he has been helping others. A few years ago Bradley raised money for a neighbor whose house burned down during Christmas. Bradley raised money to replace the presents the family had lost.

Since then, he has helped out a different family with Christmas every year. Now, he needs your help to raise money for his own family.

"My hero is my grandpa, his name is Darold Stewart, but I call him ‘Pop'" Bradley said. "He is a good Christian man, he fought in the Navy, he broke his leg in an accident about 11 years ago, and they had to amputate it last year, now he is a warrior for God."

In February, Stewart was diagnosed with lung cancer and recently started chemotherapy. He has to drive five days a week to the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur. It is about 80 miles round trip.

"I am going to raise gas money, medical bill money and other money for him," Bradley said.

Bradley's father said he can't described how proud he is of his son.

"He has always thought of helping people first," Dewayne Thomas said.

"It is hard to describe how a 9-year-old can think the way he does," Thomas said. "You can always hope that someone else will see it and pay it forward. I guess, if you can see him do it for somebody there is nothing stopping you from doing it for somebody else."

Bradley wants to follow in his grandpa's footsteps and join the military. Stewart is a Vietnam War veteran where he served in the Navy.

The family has set up a Facebook page for updates. In July, they are planning an auction.
