COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A mayoral candidate is questioning the incumbent about property taxes.

Colin Martin says Mayor Teresa Tomlinson announces she will pursue the largest tax increase in the history of Columbus. However, Martin says this will jeopardize the property tax assessment freeze for all homeowners in Columbus.

We talked to Martin on Thursday about what this means for Columbus homeowners.

"I'm a firm believer that it helps our community," Martin said. "Young families know exactly their tax bills everyday. Folks on fixed incomes don't have to worry about their tax bills going up, and folks that live in neighborhoods that are improving don't have to worry about being priced out of their home because their tax bill keeps going up."

Colin Martin is running against Current Mayor Teresa Tomlinson in May.

Prior to the campaign, Martin worked for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
