HARTSVILLE, SC (WIS) -

The Darlington County Coroner's Office has confirmed the identity of a 13-month-old child who died after being left alone in a hot car for several hours on Thursday.

Coroner Todd Hardee says Sophia Goyeneche died from hyperthermia due to the extreme heat.

The girl's father, 30-year-old David Richard Gray III was booked Thursday night at the Darlington County Detention Center and charged with one count of unlawful neglect of a child, officials confirmed.

Hardee said the child was in the car outside of a Hartsville business where the father worked.

Hardee said he has asked for the assistance of the SLED child death division and the assistance of the Hartsville City Police Department.
