A local school newspaperis being awarded for its quality work.
Shaw High School'spublication The Silver Star earnedthe Freedom of the Press Award and an Achievement Award from the GeorgiaScholastic Press Association (GSPA).
The GSPA grants this awardas a way to encourage students and high school media programs to produce greatwork. They also sponsors an annual contest critiquing high school media acrossthe state.
Shaw's Journalism advisor,Mona Griffin, is retiring this year, and won the title of GSPA 2014 Adviser ofthe Year. She says, "What a way to go out. You always want to go out ontop, and this is just the best. I've been walking on air for the last month.So, it's the best."
The Silver Star is a fullcolor magazine produced by students covering light-hearted, as well as moreserious stories, dealing with issues that are important to teenagers.
