COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A motorcyclist died at around 1 a.m. Monday morning when he crashed into a metal pole on Schaul Street in Columbus, says the Muscogee County coroner.

The coroner says Jerome Morse, Jr., 46, was fleeing from police when he crashed. It is unknown at this time why Morse was trying to elude police. He died of blunt force trauma to the chest. No autopsy will be made, but the GBI will conduct a toxicology report.

Morse's funeral arrangements will be handled by Hill Watson People's Funeral Service. Family members say Morse leaves behind multiple children.
