COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Mortality rates for mothers in Georgia have been consistently higher than the national rate, and are among the highest in the country, the Associated Press reports.
Now one Chattahoochee Valley hospital is working to fight this growing problem.
Midtown Medical Center and other hosptials across the state are participating in a program aimed at reducing the number of maternal deaths. The program is led by the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal nurses.
The effort is focused on reducing maternal deaths and injuries by improving the way hospitals recognize and respond to health emergencies.
