Agents with the Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board continue their ramped up efforts to find and destroy illegal moonshine stills across the state.

Tuesday, agents found and destroyed an 18-barrel still near the Midway community of Barbour County. The still, which was being used to make whiskey, was found in a wooded area off Frost Marlow Road approximately five miles from Eufaula.

No arrests were made and no finished alcohol was found, but authorities say the still was recently used and was in operational order.

This is the latest bust by the ABC's Moonshine Task Force. The task force, formed in October 2013, has destroyed 17 stills and 230 barrels of mash.

Crunching the numbers, ABC Administrator Mac Gipson says the destroyed barrels' annual production is around 75,192 gallons of moonshine, sold for around $30 per gallon. Totaling up the cost of production, those gallons of illegal alcohol would have netted their owners more than $1.6 million in profit.

Anyone with information on the illegal still, or any other illegal activity, can report their tips to the ABC Board Hotline at 1-800-327-7341.
