ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) -

A Covington County woman pleaded guilty to possession of obscene matter Thursday.

Ashley Eiland, 49, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She will also have to register as a sex offender.

Eiland has applied for probation. A hearing to consider the request has been set for June 19.

According to District Attorney Walt Merrell, investigators with his office and the Andalusia Police Department executed a search warrant on Eiland's home and workplace on Dec. 5. The National Computer Forensic Institute in Hoover found "numerous" pictures of a child under the age of 17 on Eiland's laptop that were from her cell phone.

Merrell said the pictures indicated that Eiland was involved in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

The district attorney said Eiland wasn't charged with stautory rape because the victim has to be under the age of 16 at the time of sexual intercourse.

Merrell said Eiland had "researched on the Internet to determine how old someone had to be before she could ‘legally' have sex with them."

According to the district attorney's office, the plea agreement states that the state won't pursue other charges against Eiland.

"There were other potential victims and other pieces of information that showed relationships with other people. In exchange for her guilty plea, we agreed to not continue our investigation into those endeavors," Merrell said in a statement. "However, we reached out to the parents as a measure of precaution, just so they would know what was going on. But, by only proceeding on this one charge, we spared a lot of people the embarrassment and the turmoil of having to go through the Court process, and ultimately justice has been served."

Eiland was arrested by investigators with the D.A.'s office Wednesday and transported to the Covington County Jail. Merrell said he had been in contact with Eiland's attorney prior to her arrest and that she had been fully cooperative.
