CSU hosts 2014 All-State Art Symposium

Posted: Updated:

Columbus State University is hosting the 2014 All-State Art Symposium from Friday, May 16 through Saturday, May 17.

Many of the paintings featured in the 2014 symposium are by high school students from all over the state of Georgia.

Selected high school students from around the state will have the opportunity to take workshops in welding, photography, animation, digital concepts, printmaking and various other artistic disciplines taught by faculty from CSU's Department of Art.

The Chair of the CSU Art Department says this is a great way to show the State of Georgia's creative side.

"It demonstrates the top level of work being done throughout the state of Georgia in the art schools, says Joe Sanders, Allen F. Rothchild Chair. "The symposium really is a gathering place for all the teachers from nine districts in Georgia, and their best students, to attend a reception together get to know each other and to network throughout the state."

The symposium has been taking place for a couple of decades, first starting at the University of Georgia, and then moving to Kennesaw State. This is CSU's first year hosting.

The artwork may be viewed in the Corn Center's Illges Gallery from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

GAEA Higher Education Teacher of the Year Bret Lefler, an associate professor of art at CSU, will give a keynote address.

Admission is free, and no tickets are necessary.
