Tank crew from Fort Benning wins 2014 Sullivan Cup

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

 A four-man crew has won the second Sullivan Cup-Best Tank Crew Competition.

SFC James Grider, SGT Kevin Luu,SPC Benjamin Whiteman and PFC Thomas Carter represented 2nd Battalion, 69thArmor Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, has wonthe second Sullivan Cup Competition.

The chief of armor, BG LeopoldoQuintas, presented the Order of St. George Medallion and the Sullivan Cup tothe during the awards ceremony Thursday, May 15.

The Sullivan Cup is a four-dayprecision gunnery contest which also challenges armor crews in their basicskills, maintenance, driver, gunnery, marksmanship abilities and fitness level.

Finishing in second place was ateam from 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1stCavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. In third place, also from Fort Hood, was ateam from 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team,2nd Infantry Division.

The competition is named forretired GEN Gordon R. Sullivan, the Army's 32nd chief of staff.

The Sullivan Cup Competition isa biennial event. The next contest will be conducted in 2016.
