COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Voting polls for Georgia's primary election have opened, and Columbus' mayoral candidates are still working to get voters on their side.

Candidate Colin Martin is going up against incumbent Mayor Teresa Tomlinson for the coveted Mayor's seat.

News leader nine spoke with both candidates find out what they are doing to win over voters.

"It's going to be nerve racking, there's no question about it," says Martin. "But I think it's going to be fun. We're going to be out there waving signs in various parts of town. We're going to be making some additional phone calls, and make sure people get one more chance to hear the message. So it's going to be a hectic time, but I think we're going to be fine in the end."

"Reminding people to vote, building up enthusiasm and then getting ready for a heck of a celebration," Tomlinson says. "It's very well deserved by a lot of hard working people, and a lot of very excited citizens that want to see this momentum continue for the next four years."

Primary election day is Tuesday, May 20.

Polls opened at 7 a.m., and will close at 7 p.m.
