(WTVM) - A judge has sentenced accused Southern Union State Community College shooter Thomas May to life in prison without parole for capital murder.
He is also sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder, and the sentences are to run consecutively. May was also charged $60,000 in fines.
The jury recommended that May be sent to prison for life, but prosecutors asked the judge to consider sentencing May to death.
In 2011, May shot and killed his mother-in-law inside a van on Southern Union's campus. His child, estranged wife, and estranged wife's grandmother were also injured in the shooting.
