COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A full scale emergency exercise took place at Midtown Medical Center on Wednesday. Participating groups practiced for natural and man-made disasters involving injured civilians.
Dozens of human and pet volunteers covered in fake blood were loaded in and out of ambulances and through decontamination sprinklers.
They were then attended to in triage centers.
"What we've been able to do is to provide animal patient decontamination alongside the hospital's decontamination lanes. And that also provides an animal full spectrum of animal, surgical and medical support for casualties that are coming into the hospital," said Team OIC and Operations Officer Cpt. Kristopher Appler.
These activities took place in various locations in the Columbus and Phenix City area.
