Crooks rig Henrico ATM, steal thousands

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico woman is one of many people who had their bank accounts cleaned out by crooks! She used a rigged ATM at The Shops at Willow Lawn.

"It was a little scary," said Dr. Grace Hadeed. "That just doesn't usually happen."

Dr. Hadeed says crooks drained more than $500 from her account.

"I was upset," said Dr. Hadeed. "But it made me feel better that it wasn't just me that there is somebody scamming other people."

Lovinia Bennett says she, too was a victim. Crooks drained her account of more than $800.

"It just makes me mad that I'm working hard for my money," said Bennett. "But somebody else can mess with the machine and take everything that I earn."

We tried to speaking to the Willow Lawn branch manager about what is being called ATM skimming.

"I can't have the conversation with you guys about any of that type of stuff," said the manager. "I'm sorry."

We did get an email from the SunTrust corporate office.

"We reported the issue to the Henrico Police Department and they are actively investigating it," said Hugh Suhr with SunTrust. "We've proactively reached out to clients we determined were affected by the incident and have taken appropriate action including blocking and reissuing their cards."

We are told those impacted will have to wait up to 5 to 10 days to get there money deposited back into their account.

"It's a holiday weekend coming," said Lovinia. "I have no money for the holiday weekend."

Lovinia says she was victimized during Mother's Day weekend. If you have any information contact Crime Solvers at 804-780-1000.
