COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

It's National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and one local company is celebrating by having its employees recommit to wellness.

Synovus hosted their first wellness walk on May 22 on the Riverwalk. Synovus CEO Kessel Stelling and other senior leaders of the company led the walk.

They tell us the purpose of the event was to get all their team members excited about exercise and healthier living.

"We wanted to do this event to help people recommit to wellness and refocus. And not only are we having this event but throughout our footprint there are other activities planned for our other employees. But the real positive about this is we wanted everybody to get together kind of get some excitement going. Our executives are committed to it, they're here to support the event and to actually lead it," said Mary Stranger, Director of Benefits at Synovus.

Around 200 team members showed up to participate in Thursday's wellness walk.
