COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

American flags are on display at the veterans' memorial gardens at Riverdale Cemetery to honor fallen veterans in observance of Memorial Day.

Brenetta Braddy, KeSean Daniels, and Pierce Johnson from the Columbus Police Department's Explorer Troops and David Bennett, a representative from American Legion Post 35, posted close to 200 flags Thursday afternoon. Officers P. Moody and T. Spencer from the police department also assisted putting up flags.

This is the first year that the Explorer Troops have helped put out flags.

The vets are from five different wars, including the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.

There are about 360 veterans' graves in the cemetery.
