Muscogee Co. Election Board certifies final voting results

The five members of the Muscogee County Board of Elections met Friday afternoon, May 23, to certify the final results of the elections that took place earlier in the week.

The Board went through the process of counting the provisional ballots recommended by the elections staff.

A few voters fill out provisional ballots for various reasons, including voting outside of poll hours, not having appropriate identification on hand at the time of voting, or voting outside of their own district.

The elections staff approved 27 provisional ballots to be added to the total while eight provisional ballots were rejected.

Nancy Boren, Director of Elections & Voter Registration for Muscogee County, says the numbers are not final until this certification process is complete.

"[The numbers] will be different," says Boren. "That is why we title every report that we have ‘unofficial results'. They're not official until the board certifies on Friday, because we have to count the provisional ballots that were cast at the poll on Election Day."

Once the provisional votes are added to the total, and the board certifies the final results, candidates who think they may have been eligible for a runoff have two business days to request a recount.
