3rd Annual Firefighter MDA 5K set for June 7

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Fire officials of Central Georgia and East Alabama are coming together once again to raise funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy (MD), and the whole community is invited.

The 3rd Annual Firefighter MDA 5K Walk and Run will take off from Uptown Columbus on June 7.

There are more than 40 patients in our region who suffer from MD, and the money the association raises will help patients with medical expenses, and other annual vaccines and hospital visits, as well as send them to a week-long camp.

"This money stays local," says Eugene Hall, Columbus Fire and EMS Training Lieutenant. "I know MDA is a national organization, and they have national fundraisers, and it goes to research, and it goes to other things of that nature, but this money stays local. This money helps patients in our area."

The 5K will start at Big Dog Running Co. on June 7. Click here for more information.

On June 18, there will be a Burger Battle at Smokey Bones Bar and Grill. The competition will be between the Columbus Fire Department and the Fraternal Order of Police.
