PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

A Phenix City teacher gives her last lesson after more than three decades as an educator.

Becky Strickland is retiring after 32 years in the classroom.

Friday, May 23, the staff of Phenix City Elementary School took time out to celebrate the occasion. They presented Strickland with a plaque from the Phenix City School System, and a proclamation from the office of Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe.

Strickland was all smiles for today's honor.

"We have been through loving each other, crying on each others' shoulders, good things and bad things, and as I was saying, this is not co-workers, this is family," says Strickland. "It's been 32 years of wonderful, wonderful people."

Strickland says she plans on enjoying her retirement by volunteering more at Highland Community Church in Columbus where her son is the pastor.
