BARTOW COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The body of a recent high school graduate was pulled from Lake Allatoona early Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources says 18-year-old Chance Werner of Cartersville drowned in the lake at Holiday Harbor Marina over the weekend.

"We've all been in the same situation, and hopefully now this will be an eye-opener," said Angel Ferguson, a swimmer.

Witnesses told rangers Werner and some friends were playing a game where someone would sit in a shopping cart tied to the pole. The cart was then pushed off the dock forcefully, causing the person inside to fly out. They then would swim back to the dock.

Unfortunately, during Werner's turn, the cart was tied to his body instead of the pole.

When the cart went off the dock, the weight of it pulled the teen under the water and he could not get free.

Crews from DNR, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office and Bartow County Fire and Rescue recovered Werner's body just before 3 a.m. Sunday. He was found submerged in 30 feet of water and still tied to the cart.

Investigators are still looking into the incident.
